Host Peter Andre leads a free, hands-on walking tour at Andre Acres focused on how to plant and care for prairie habitat. He will describe how his family converted the landscape into three different prairies that now total nearly 21 acres of habitat, then a panel of specialists will share practical guidance on establishment, prescribed fire, and pollinator insects while answering questions. Participants can expect about two miles of walking. Wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle. Limited rides for those needing mobility assistance may be arranged in advance. Expert representation includes Juie Peterson and Amy Schaefer with Pheasants Forever, Zechariah Peronto with Glacierland Resource Conservation and Development, Jade Kochanski, a UW-Madison PhD candidate and pollinator ecologist, Jay Watson, a WDNR conservation biologist, Kristina Weld with the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council, Mark Holey with YMCA Sturgeon Bay Prairie, Jason Wilke with Nature Care Ecological Consulting, Chris Kaplan with Tallgrass Restoration, and Bob Bultman and Arianna Druecke with Door County Prairie Company.
