A community benefit at Springville Sports Barn will support Addison Ciesielski and her family as they face significant medical challenges. After a healthy pregnancy and delivery, Addison began having seizures and was transferred to a NICU, where monitoring confirmed seizure activity from multiple areas of her brain. Several medications were required to reduce the seizures, which led to sleepiness and the need for oxygen and a feeding tube. Doctors later identified a DXML-2 gene deletion, associated with Developmental Epilepsy Encephalopathy, a rare condition that brings difficult-to-control seizures, developmental delays, low muscle tone, and a progressive, life-limiting course. She was moved to American Children’s Hospital to be near her neurology and genetics teams and underwent surgery to place a feeding tube for safe nutrition at home. Her parents have been consulting specialists and exploring every possible avenue of care with the help of relatives and friends. The timeline for coming home remains uncertain, and the family anticipates ongoing needs related to in-home support, time away from work for appointments and treatment, and adjustments to daily life based on the level of care Addison will qualify for. This event is intended to ease the financial strain of her medical needs. Raffle basket contributions and volunteers are being coordinated by Amy and Colin Reffner, and further event details will be shared.
