The Smokehouse at Green Valley RanchExploring the Bandhas | Awakening the Body’s Natural Intelligence
Explore your body’s natural support system in a three-part workshop devoted to the bandhas, the internal mechanisms that organize pressure with every breath and movement. If you have felt your core is not fully engaged, your breathing is tight, or the same areas keep tensing, this series focuses on building strength through awareness rather than force and welcomes all experience levels, including beginners. Postpartum participants may find particular support by learning to guide pressure, reconnect with easy breathing, and re-coordinate the pelvic floor, core, ribs, and spine to aid healing, rebuild strength, and move with renewed confidence. When these inner supports work well, the body can feel uplifted and connected. When they do not, it may show up as back discomfort, leaking, a weak-feeling core, tension in the neck and shoulders, or a sense of downward pressure. Each session highlights a different layer. The pelvic floor and base address concerns like incontinence, heaviness or prolapse symptoms, low back pain, difficulty reconnecting to the core, and changes in sexual vitality. The core and breath session works with patterns such as gripping the belly, shallow breathing, digestive unease, rib stiffness, and slumped posture. The neck and nervous system session attends to shoulder and neck tightness, jaw clenching, headaches or head pressure, breath holding, and difficulty slowing down. Expect a practical, accessible experience that centers feeling over forcing. Through breath, simple movement, and focused awareness, you will explore how to feel stronger without bracing, breathe more fully, reduce pain and tension, and rebuild trust in your body. The final meeting integrates all three areas so you can sense whole-body support working together. Kelsey guides the series, blending yoga philosophy with functional movement. As a Restore Your Core Pro, Kelsey focuses on how breath, the core, and the body’s deeper support systems interrelate, offering a trauma informed, grounded, and playful approach that supports building strength from the inside out. Tickets are available through Yoga Center of Denver. Held at Yoga Center of Denver.

Mark A. Johnson with Adrian Miller Live at Tattered Cover
At Tattered Cover Books, author and historian Mark A. Johnson joins Adrian Miller for a conversation about the long, surprising story of American bacon and Johnson’s book American Bacon. Johnson examines how a food once limited by religious rules, cultural skepticism, and dietary warnings grew into a modern culinary and cultural force. Beginning in early modern Britain and moving through the colonial period, the Civil War and Progressive Era, through fad diets and the rise of craft bacon, he links this history to race, class, and gender, as well as broader currents such as migration, warfare, urbanization and suburbanization, reform movements, cultural trends, and globalization. The shift from “most dangerous food in the supermarket” to pop culture staple offers a lens on American values. The program features a moderated discussion followed by audience Q&A. Guests can meet the author, get books signed and personalized, and take photos. Registration includes a choice of a signed hardcover of the book or a $5 Tattered Cover Book Store gift card. A limited number of additional copies will be available for purchase in store, and only a book ticket guarantees a copy. If a ticket is purchased but the event is not attended, the book must be picked up with proof of registration within seven days after the event, otherwise the copy is forfeited to Tattered Cover Book Store. Mark A. Johnson, from Milwaukee, holds a PhD in history from the University of Alabama, an MA from the University of Maryland, and a BA from Purdue University. He teaches at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and wrote An Irresistible History of Alabama Barbecue: From Wood Pit to White Sauce and Rough Tactics: Black Performance in Political Spectacle, 1877–1932. Adrian Miller, author of Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time, a James Beard Foundation book award winner, is a certified Kansas City Barbecue Society judge and an attorney who previously served as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton. He lives in Denver, Colorado.
