    Downtown Bridgeport Farmers Market

    The Downtown Bridgeport Farmers Market, announced by the Bridgeport Downtown Special Services District, takes place at McLevy Green. The season opens with a live cooking demonstration from Chef Raquel Rivera of A Pinch of Salt, performances by local musicians, a mix of food offerings and handmade goods from local vendors, and interactive art activities led by cARTie, the Art Museum Bus. Throughout the season, the market features live music each week and occasional cooking demos with Chef Raquel and Deja Smith of Khemi’s Vegan Cuisine, along with fresh vegetables and a variety of lunch options. Regular vendors include Killam & Bassette Farmstead, Betzy’s Latin Cuisine, Khemi’s Vegan Cuisine, and Natural Juice, with artisan makers such as Destinie Designs, Kiffy Naturals, Rico Suave Accessories, and The She Shed. Community resources are provided by the American Jobs Center, Bridgeport Public Library, the Fairfield County Coalition Voter Registration, Greater Bridgeport Transit and CTrides, Liberation Programs, and Recovery Network of Programs, with additional appearances on some weeks by CONNECT-US, the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging, UI and Avangrid, and Jehovah’s Witnesses. The market participates in the Bridgeport Bucks program to expand access to healthy food by offering coupons redeemable for fruits and vegetables at Bridgeport farmers markets, and it accepts SNAP/EBT, WIC, and Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks, as well as cash, credit, and debit. Shoppers using SNAP receive an incentive so that every dollar spent becomes two dollars toward fresh produce.
