Experience a hands-on dumpling party at Patty Chen's Dumpling School, a playful alternative to a traditional cooking class. Over 2.5 hours, participants ages 8 and up learn how to roll and fold dough, properly fill dumplings with different fillings, shape them in a variety of styles, and cook them. The focus is on fun and learning at a comfortable pace, making it welcoming for all skill levels and a great fit for friends and families. Capacity is limited to 16 people. Explore the rebellious, gravity-defying world of classic wuxia through a seminar centered on King Hu’s 1967 milestone Dragon Inn. This welcoming introduction looks at the genre’s influential second wave, when filmmakers like Hu refreshed its style with wire work, acrobatic performances, and complex fight choreography, turning wuxia into a bold technical spectacle that helped set the stage for Hollywood’s later embrace of Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The session is led by Cass Clarke, a horror writer, film critic, youth facilitator, and lifelong martial artist. They are part of GALECA, a society of LGBTQ+ critics, and their work on film and television has appeared in outlets such as Fangoria, Rue Morgue, Den of Geek, Slash Film, Marvel, and more. Their background includes leading entertainment newsrooms, attending film festivals, and interviewing cult icons like Elvira. Cass currently works with Teens in Print as a Youth Program Specialist, creating and teaching journalism curricula that center teen voice and choice for young people in Boston. They hold an MFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and a BA in English Literature from Suffolk University, and they are a 3rd Dan black belt in ITF-style Taekwon-do who also coaches young children.
