Celebrate Purple Heart Day with a parent and child class where you’ll learn about the Badge of Military Merit created during the American Revolution and how it later became the Purple Heart. Together, you and your child will make your own versions of the badge, or create your own badge of merit. Registration is per child, and the activity is designed for co-ed pairs ages 6 to 13.

Students in grades 1 through 12 can create and plant their own decorated mini garden to take home. All plants and decorative materials are provided, and participants should bring garden gloves. Advance registration is required because the class is limited to 15 children, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. There is no fee for children. Adults may choose to make their own mini garden for $5 by noting this on the registration and paying at the class with cash or a check made out to the University of Maryland.
