Students in grades 1 through 12 can create and plant their own decorated mini garden to take home. All plants and decorative materials are provided, and participants should bring garden gloves. Advance registration is required because the class is limited to 15 children, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. There is no fee for children. Adults may choose to make their own mini garden for $5 by noting this on the registration and paying at the class with cash or a check made out to the University of Maryland. Hosted by the Frederick Gargoyles at Skate Frederick, this free First Shift session introduces Special Hockey to athletes with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities in a fun, supportive, and inclusive setting. Newcomers to the ice and those seeking a team experience can learn basic hockey skills, meet players and coaches, make friends, and explore what Special Hockey offers. The program welcomes all genders, begins at age 5, and has no upper age limit. Helmets, sticks, and skate rentals are provided, and participants should bring their own winter gloves. A parent or guardian must remain present, and on ice mentor opportunities are available.

Plant enthusiasts come together for a monthly community swap at Steinhardt Brewing Company. Admission is free and the event is open to all.
