Awaken: A Weekend Immersion in Yoga

Awaken: A Weekend Immersion in Yoga Have you been practicing yoga and sensing there's more to the story? More depth, more meaning, more to understand about what you're actually doing and why it works? Awaken is designed for exactly that — for the person who is sincerely interested in yoga and ready to discover the philosophical framework that makes yoga so much more than an hour on a mat. This is a weekend spent in good company, with room for questions, conversation, and practice. You'll leave with a grounding in yoga's core teachings that will inform and enrich everything you do on the mat, and off it. Not a teacher training program, not a retreat — a genuine immersion into the heart of what yoga is and how to live it. What We'll Explore Yoga is a complete system — philosophy, anatomy, and practice woven together. The asana practice most of us begin with is not a stepping stone to something more spiritual; it is itself a rich and inexhaustible source of inquiry. The body is always changing, always present, always offering something worth paying attention to. What the broader teachings of yoga give us is a framework that makes the whole practice more legible — and more alive. Over the course of the weekend we'll move through three pillars of that system: Samkhya is the ancient philosophical system that forms the metaphysical foundation of yoga. It offers a remarkably clear account of consciousness and matter, and of what it means to be a human being navigating this life. We begin here because everything else — the vrittis, the kleshas, the eight limbs, the practice itself — makes more sense when you understand the worldview it comes from. The vrittis and kleshas — the fluctuations and obstacles of the mind — are yoga's account of the problem. The vrittis are the movements of the mind; the kleshas are the deeper conditions that keep it entangled. Understanding these is understanding what yoga practice is actually working with and why it matters. The eight limbs of yoga, as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, is the practical path — yoga's answer to the problem the vrittis and kleshas describe. Most people who practice yoga know asana, the third limb. The other seven are equally rich, equally practical, and equally worth your time. The Schedule Friday Evening | 7–9 p.m. We begin with a two-hour introduction to Samkhya — the metaphysics of yoga and the philosophical foundation of the entire practice. Saturday Morning | 9–10:30 a.m. & 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Join one or both of our regular Saturday classes — a Level 2 class and a beginner-friendly back care class — both included in your registration. Saturday Afternoon | 1–5 p.m. We explore the vrittis and kleshas — the fluctuations and obstacles of the mind that yoga practice is designed to address — and begin our study of the eight limbs of yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Sunday | 9 a.m.–12 p.m. We close with a practice session and continued lecture and discussion on the eight limbs of yoga. About Your Teacher Jessica Girija Jewell been practicing yoga for 27 years and teaching for 12. In that time, yoga has been many things to her — a physical practice that has grown slower and richer with the years, a healing tool, and perhaps most importantly, a framework for learning to live with greater kindness and compassion. The philosophy has helped her understand who she is, why she's here, and how to be in this world. It is the most useful thing she knows, and she loves teaching it. Her approach is conversational and accessible. She is not here to lecture from a distance — she's here to learn alongside you, to answer your questions, and to make these teachings as alive and useful for you as they have been for her. May 15–17, 2025 | Yoga Together Lincoln Sliding scale: $160–$250 — pay what reflects your means, all are welcome. Courts of Courage Sand Volleyball Tournament

Courts of Courage brings teams together for a sand volleyball tournament that starts with check in, group photos, and a rules meeting, then moves into pool play and bracketed competition. There is a short pause after pool play to seed divisions and hold a raffle, but there is no designated lunch break, so stagger meals to help the kitchen serve everyone in a timely way. Players may bring bottled water or sports drinks, but no coolers, outside food, or alcohol. Restrooms are available outdoors, and if going inside, shirts and shoes are required. Play continues in rain with pauses for lightning. Canopies and camping chairs are welcome. Teams may include any mix of men and women as long as men do not outnumber women. A second male blocker may come forward when there is only one other man in the front row. If a roster changes due to heat or injury, notify a tournament director. Pool play brackets and courts are announced after all teams have checked in and waivers are complete. Each pool match is a single game to 25 with no win by two, and exact scores must be reported. Let serves and open serving are allowed, but a serve may not be blocked or attacked. Keep ball handling recreational, minimize prolonged contacts or carries, and call your own net violations for safety. Balls that touch the line are in, and if there is disagreement, replay the point. If wind is a factor, agree on any side switches before starting. There are no scheduled breaks during pool play, games run back to back, and transitions should be brief. Teams from all levels are mixed in pool play, and sandbagging is not permitted. In tournament play, teams are placed into divisions based on the number of entries. Matches are best of three, with the first two sets to 21 and a deciding set to 15 if needed, win by two. The deciding set has a 15 point cap except in the gold division where there are no caps. All divisions are double elimination. In the losers bracket, matches are one set to 25 with a 25 point cap. For heat safety, a brief break may be requested after back to back or long matches, otherwise be ready to play as soon as your court is available. Cash prizes depend on the total number of registered teams, and proceeds support veterans and first responders.

Work with premium black walnut and other select hardwoods, then personalize your piece by choosing up to two epoxy colors when you arrive. After the session, each project cures for about a week before entering a careful finishing phase that typically takes 8 to 10 weeks, with the overall timeline influenced by class size and shipping. When complete, your finished piece is shipped to you in pristine condition. All ticket sales are final. If you cannot attend, someone may come in your place. Every attendee age 12 and up must have a ticket, and couples tickets allow two people to collaborate on one project.

Dirt Monkey | The Royal Grove

Dirt Monkey brings a bass-fueled showcase to The Royal Grove, spotlighting a style that fuses funk, hip-hop rhythms, reggae flavors, and heavy dubstep into a bold, genre-bending sound. The set unfolds as a true ride rather than nonstop headbanging, moving from lively, off-kilter low end to passages where classic funk and soul samples color modern dubstep. Expect hip-hop drive with crisp transitions and groove-led builds, with gritty peaks that flip into full-on party energy. Festival appearances include Shambhala, Electric Forest, and Bass Canyon, and his performances are known for inventive pacing and high intensity without repeating the same ideas. Fans of Subtronics, Ganja White Night, or Liquid Stranger will feel at home, with an extra dose of funk-forward experimentation. Opening support comes from Chozen b2b Noetika, delivering a high-energy back-to-back set steeped in underground bass, dubstep, and exploratory sounds to set the tone. The Royal Grove enhances the night with a powerful sound system, immersive LED visuals, lasers, and CO2 effects, creating a charged atmosphere that builds momentum from start to finish.
