Volunteers are needed for a hands-on bed delivery day supporting SHP Trumbull Co. The team delivers handmade wooden bed frames to local children who have been approved to receive them, along with a new mattress, pillow, sheets, a comforter, and a blanket. No prior experience is required, and simple training is provided on arrival. You may volunteer on your own or with a friend. This opportunity is for volunteers assisting with deliveries. The group meets at the storage garage to load materials, then heads out for deliveries. Advance sign up for a shift is required before delivery day.
90th Anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s First Flight in an Airplane
Commemorating ninety years since six-year-old Neil Armstrong first took to the skies, this event reflects on how it all began. As a young resident of the Warren and Champion Township area, Armstrong took his first airplane ride from Warren Airways, now the site of the First Flight Lunar Module, aboard a Ford Tri-Motor known as the Tin Goose. The experience sparked a lifelong love of aviation. Attendees can make and fold their own paper airplanes while enjoying space-themed refreshments. A brief program offers remarks in honor of Armstrong’s inaugural flight. The program concludes with a paper airplane flying competition divided by age group, with prizes for standout flights. Years later he flew in the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and became the first man to walk on the Moon, remembered for his well known small step line. This event is free and open to the public and is co-hosted by the Warren Heritage Center.

The Warren Italian American Festival pageant is now accepting entries for multiple age divisions. Miss Italian, for ages 16 to 19, features an evening gown presentation along with a 90 second speech about heritage. Jr Miss Italian, for ages 12 to 15, and Jr Princess, for ages 8 to 11, both include an evening gown presentation and a live onstage question. There is also an optional talent portion, and a separate Miss Talent title with its own crown and sash will be awarded, while talent scores do not impact overall pageant results. Entrants must have Italian ancestry they can trace. Application forms are available on the festival website.

Dire Straits Legacy presents the music of Dire Straits with an ensemble that includes musicians who recorded and toured with the band, joined by world class players. The performance includes the group’s most recognizable hits alongside new songs from the album 3 Chord Trick, produced by Alan Clark and Phil Palmer, plus a few surprises. With Dire Straits’ catalog that has sold over 120 million albums worldwide, the set draws from six platinum releases and features classics such as Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Walk of Life, Brothers in Arms, Tunnel of Love and more. On stage are Dire Straits veterans Alan Clark, the band’s first keyboardist, Phil Palmer and Danny Cummings, who both recorded On Every Street, and Mel Collins, who appeared on the singles Love Over Gold and Twisting by the Pool. Each has performed live with Dire Straits across multiple global tours. The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project presents the first annual MUTT STRUT, a community dog walk where every shelter dog takes part. With the organization averaging around 120 dogs, the event focuses on pairing each dog with sponsors and walkers so everyone can participate comfortably and safely. Every dog must be sponsored to join the walk. A $100 sponsorship covers one dog and includes up to four walkers, and if a sponsor cannot provide walkers, participants will be assigned to that dog. All participants are required to sign a waiver and will receive a MUTT STRUT '26 T-shirt, a walk number that matches their dog’s number, and a photo with the dog they walk. Pre-registration and sponsorships are available in advance, and walk-day registration will also be offered. The route starts and finishes at The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project and spans 2.7 miles, following MLK, Front, Raiders Path, Haliday, Loveless, Union, and Victoria. Drink stations for people and dogs will be set approximately every 0.7 miles. Volunteers will be positioned along the course and will also walk certain dogs.
