The program also points to landscape elements that may have contributed to the valley’s significance as a sacred place. Neinast’s connection to the Earthworks began in 2009 during a pilgrimage from Chillicothe to Newark that followed, as closely as possible, the path of the Great Hopewell Road. That experience sparked his ongoing exploration of the phenomena associated with the flourishing of the Hopewell Culture nearly two thousand years ago. The event takes place at The Octagon Visitor Center. General admission is $10. Ohio History Members are admitted free, and students receive free admission with a valid student ID.
