Live music in Hillsboro, OR

An inviting open mic and jam session celebrates live acoustic music, poetry, storytelling, and many forms of creative expression. Performers and listeners are welcome to share their voices and connect with the community in a relaxed setting. All ages are welcome, and well behaved dogs may attend. A house microphone is provided, and participants may bring small amplifiers, small drums, and effects. A sign-up list is available for anyone who wants to perform. Kanekoa delivers a live show that blends eclectic roots and jam band energy with touches of reggae, blues, funk, and island grooves. Built around electric Hawaiian ukulele, their jam-rock approach showcases the instrument’s range while keeping improvisation at the heart of the sound. Guided by the culture and land of Hawai‘i, the band moves from traditional Hawaiian pieces to 80s pop and blues-influenced jams, always filtering each style through a distinctive voice. Their music has earned attention from Mick Fleetwood and Los Lobos, and Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead has compared them to Hawaii’s answer to his own improvisational tradition.
