Drift into evening on a relaxed, social paddle that follows the river by moonlight as the Greenbelt shifts from golden hour into true twilight. Each paddler receives two 2-foot glow sticks to mount up front for maximum shimmer on the water, plus a mini flashlight for added visibility. This outing is not a race, it is a mellow experience built around atmosphere, wildlife, and illuminated boards moving quietly under the canopy. Possible sights include bats hunting at dusk, fireflies sparkling along the banks, the moon appearing between branches, large groups of martins near the bridge, owls calling, frogs providing the nighttime soundtrack, and occasional beaver activity. Wildlife encounters vary, which is part of the fun. Start the New Year outdoors with a ranger-led group hike at the Isle du Bois Unit. The pace is moderate, and it serves as the second hike in the Tri-Park-A-Thon, with the option to participate in one or all three hikes. Participants meet at the Boat Ramp parking lot at the Isle du Bois Unit and can look for the sign. The route follows the Randy Bell Scenic Trail, a two mile paved path with some inclines, and it is rated easy. All ages are welcome. Dogs may attend on a secure non-extendable leash, with vaccinations up to date and good socialization around people and other dogs. Bring water, wear trail shoes, and dress for the weather. Ranger-led programs may be canceled due to weather. This program is open to the public, with only regular entrance fees required, and the park often reaches capacity, so advance reservations are encouraged to ensure entry.
