Explore the voices of the trobairitz, the women poets of medieval France, in a lecture that traces their lives, their art, and how their portrayals of love contrasted with the more idealized songs of the troubadours. The program looks at their perspectives on romance and their place in the literary culture of their era. The talk is presented by Dr. Charity Urbanski, a Teaching Professor at the University of Washington whose scholarship centers on twelfth-century England and France. Her research encompasses historiography, gender, power, and monstrosity, and she is the author of Writing History for the King: Henry II and the Politics of Vernacular Historiography. This is a free program with limited capacity, and the content is most appropriate for ages 15 and older.
