A grass quads volleyball tournament at Saghalie Middle School brings together Upper, Lower, and Women divisions for competitive play. The day begins with check in and a captains meeting before the first serve, and teams that are not fully present at the start of a round may need to begin with available players or risk a forfeit for that round. Pool play features a single game to 21 with a cap at 21. Brackets are created shortly after pool play and matches begin right away, and there is no scheduled lunch break. In the Lower Division, teams are split into Gold and Silver brackets after pool play. Every bracket match has an assigned referee, calls are final, and respectful conduct is required. The tournament uses double elimination. Winners bracket matches are to 21, 21, 15. The first round of the losers bracket is to 21, 21, 15, and the second round is a single game to 25 with no cap. Playing rules include three touches after a block, doubles will be called, no open hand tips and no open hand receives, no roster substitutions, sets sent over the net must be square, and any contact with the net is a fault, including contact with clothing. In the event of an injury, a team may replace the player with someone who is no longer in the tournament and of equal or lower level if the opponents agree. Entry for the Upper Division is $250 with cash prizes of $3,400 for first place and $800 for second. Entry for the Lower Division is $200 with Gold bracket prizes of $800 for first and $400 for second and Silver bracket prizes of $400 for first and $200 for second. Entry for the Women Division is $200 with cash prizes of $1,200 for first and $300 for second. Winners will be recognized on stage with prizes and medals. The conversation explains how the program supports first-time homebuyers with down payment and closing cost assistance through a zero percent interest loan that is secondary to the primary mortgage and repaid when the home is sold or refinanced. The discussion also covers who may qualify, including households at or below 100 percent of area median income, situations where the homebuyer or a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent lived in Washington before April 1968 and that person is Black, Hispanic, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Korean, or Asian Indian, and the requirement to complete a five-hour WSHFC homeownership class.
