In the Genesys format, Link Monsters and Pendulum Monsters are not used. The original field layout is in effect with no Extra Monster Zones or Pendulum Zones. The standard Forbidden and Limited list does not apply, except that Link and Pendulum cards remain unavailable, and the usual maximum of three copies per card still applies. Deck construction uses a point system where some cards have assigned values and most cost zero, and the combined total across Main, Extra, and Side Decks cannot exceed the event cap of 100 points. Konami offers an online tool to help with deck building and point tracking, and a dedicated site provides more details about the format.

Entry is $90 per team. The set returns to Middle‑earth with a wide range of familiar characters and creatures, evoking travels with dwarves, run‑ins with trolls, clever encounters with elves, and songs along the way. Two-Headed Giant is played by teams of two who share a starting life total of 30 and take their turns at the same time. Life is the only shared resource. When a card says “you,” it applies only to the player who controls that card. Effects that say “each opponent” or “each player” apply to both members of the opposing team or to all players individually. Players can block creatures attacking themselves, their teammate, or any planeswalkers their team controls. Each participant receives a Prerelease kit and builds a deck of at least 40 cards, with basic lands provided. Teammates combine their opened cards to build together, then compete in a three‑round, best‑of‑three tournament. Each match win earns a The Hobbit booster pack for both players on the winning team.
