Self-Guided Summer Nature Journaling

Experience a free, self-guided nature journaling activity spread across the park. Fourteen prompts invite you to pause at each stop, read an inspirational nature quote, and reflect on the surrounding ecology. Bring a journal, sketchbook, or your phone to capture observations and creative thoughts. Move at your own pace and return as often as you like. You can follow one prompt each week of the summer or explore them all in a single visit. Revisit the same spot over time to notice how the landscape changes through the season. A map showing the locations of each prompt is available at the information kiosk along the main entrance walkway or inside the Ecology Center.

Vollrath Bowl Lantern Making & Parade

A beloved Sheboygan tradition lights up once more as the community reimagines the Vollrath Bowl Lantern Parade. Beginning in 1935 and continuing for decades, the celebration marked the close of the recreation department’s summer playground program, drawing large crowds who crafted themed lanterns, joined the procession, watched skits, and enjoyed a flashlight dance. This summer, the Sheboygan County Museum offers children and families a chance to blend local history with hands-on creativity at lantern-making tables set up at Vollrath Bowl. Completed lanterns can then shine together in a free community parade at Vollrath Park. Both the making sessions and the parade are free, and a rain date is planned.

Queer Fam Game Night

Paradigm Coffee and Music hosts an inclusive game night welcoming LGBTQ+ folks and allies for a relaxed evening of play. Admission is free. Several tables will be set up so attendees can choose which games to jump into, bring favorites from home, or pick from the many provided. To keep the cards and boards clean, please skip snacks that leave residue, like Cheetos, so no one ends up with orange fingerprints on the games.

Three bands take the stage during the event, featuring The Noah Nelson Band, The Nate Bjorge Band, and Juice's Midnight Preachers. Specters of the Spotlight Ghost Tours

Step into a storied theater where the ghost light glows and whispers of flickering bulbs and unseen footsteps linger. This 90 minute guided experience blends history with a playful chill as you hear accounts of past performers, unusual happenings, and the venue’s well known resident spirits. Explore backstage spaces seldom seen by audiences, feel the charge of a haunted balcony, and stand on the stage in the glow of the ghost light. Ideal for history fans, theater enthusiasts, paranormal investigators, and curious minds, though it may not be suitable for children. Cameras are welcome, and a cash bar will be available with beverages allowed during the tour. Tickets are 20 dollars per person plus fees. Doors open 30 minutes before the start, and a brief intermission is included. Advance registration is required at least 24 hours ahead. Operation Backpack, also known as Operación Mochila, is a community outreach at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church that provides children with a backpack and basic school supplies at no cost. It is intended for families who could use help covering back-to-school essentials. Children must be present to receive items, and supplies are limited on a first come, first served basis.

Enjoy a relaxing stagecoach ride through the Kettle Moraine Forest on a replica Concord stagecoach. Along the way you can meet the horses, take photos with them, and learn about horse-powered travel in the late 1800s. The ride lasts about 30 minutes, with check-in at the Wade House Visitor Center and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum. Organized by the Sheboygan Falls Cub Scouts, this family-friendly hike explores Kohler-Andrae State Park, with the group meeting by the playground near parking lot P8. Families and friends are welcome, and a fun activity is planned after the hike. Attendees may also spend time at the beach once the walk wraps up. Entry requires either a state park sticker or a daily pass. For comfort and safety, plan to have a small first aid kit, a full water bottle, a flashlight, a trail snack, sun protection, and a whistle. If it rains, the outing will be rescheduled. Second Sunday Pinball Tournament

A welcoming pinball competition at Legend Larry’s is designed for newcomers. Participants can learn the basics on site and compete in groups of three to four players. Paint the Towns in Fall Color Plein Air

The Plymouth Arts Center is hosting its annual Paint the Towns in Fall Color, an outdoor plein air painting competition and exhibition. Midwest artists can register in advance for a chance to be accepted, then paint during the designated outdoor painting days around Plymouth, Greenbush, and Glen Beulah, with an additional paint weekend invitation on the grounds of the Road America racetrack. A public reception with live music, complimentary appetizers and desserts, and a silent auction will be held at the Plymouth Arts Center on Friday, October 20 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The show will remain on display in the Art Center’s Gallery 110 North through November 17.

Returning for a second year, this sunset beach run at Kohler-Andrae State Park follows a varied course through the campground and along the shoreline, includes short stretches of road, crosses prairie and wooded sections, then heads back through the main park on the cordwalk before finishing by the water. Proceeds support the Friends of High Cliff State Park, with an option to add a donation during sign up. The atmosphere welcomes both competitive runners and those out for a relaxed outing, and a generous cutoff keeps the pace flexible. Spectators will find it family friendly and easy to make a full day of the park. Check in takes place at the Indoor Shelter at P7 near the start and finish. Registration features two scheduled price increases, and there is no race day registration. Be mindful of park closing rules, and only campers with reservations may remain after closing. Pour Your Own Epoxy™ (August 20th at 3 Sheeps Brewing, Sheboygan, WI)

Create a one-of-a-kind epoxy river charcuterie board, lazy susan, clock, key holder shelf, coasters, or a mini pair at a fun, informative, hands-on workshop hosted at 3 Sheeps Brewing in Sheboygan, WI. Each project uses premium black walnut and other fine hardwoods highlighted with epoxy accents, and you can choose up to two epoxy colors when you arrive. After the session, pieces rest for about a week to fully cure, then move into a detailed finishing process that typically takes 8 to 10 weeks, with the overall timeline dependent on class size and shipping. Topics include safe firearm handling, the fundamentals of shooting, muzzle discipline, trigger control, and the importance of stance and grip. Explore the reduction method in a hands-on printmaking class focused on creating a 6 to 7 layer linocut from a single block. Illume Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa returns to Kohler Waters Spa for a full day focused on beauty and wellness, featuring on-site injection services in a private treatment room with Dr. Mark Blake. Guests who purchase a service from Illume receive complimentary spa access for the day along with 20 percent off all spa services. Half hour appointments include education, a consultation, and an injection treatment using dermal fillers or Botox. Introductory rates are available, with Botox at $10 per unit and Dysport at $4 per unit. Dermal filler is offered at $499 or $599 per syringe depending on the product. IV therapy ranges from $200 to $250 based on selection, and vitamin shots are $25 per vitamin. Advance reservations are required, and a 24 hour cancellation policy applies which may result in a charge equal to the fee for one Botox treatment area from Illume. 9th ANNUAL KAYAK REGATTA

Kayakers gather at Kiwanis Park for a public paddle hosted by Ecology Outfitters and the Wakkee Paddlers Club. The group will travel along the Sheboygan River to South Pier and back, lighting up the water as they go. A kayak decorating contest is part of the festivities, with judging taking place before the paddle begins and prizes awarded through sixth place. Awards are 100 dollars for first, 75 for second, 50 for third, 25 for fourth, 15 for fifth, and 10 for sixth. Participation is open to all, and the fee for ages 18 and up is 15 dollars with an event T-shirt included, with a day-of rate of 20 dollars.

A benefit concert supporting the Sheboygan Countywide Crime Stoppers Association brings an evening of country favorites to Kohler Memorial Theater. Mike Sugg pays tribute to Toby Keith, performing hits like “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “Beer for My Horses,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and more. Demetri Martin: The Quick Draw Tour

Demetri Martin brings The Quick Draw Tour to the stage. The standup comedian, writer, and director earned the Perrier Award for his one man show If I at the Fringe festival in Edinburgh and Australia’s Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for Dr. Earnest Parrot Presents Demetri Martin. His work includes three albums of standup comedy and four hour long specials, including The Overthinker on Netflix. He created and starred in the Comedy Central series Important Things with Demetri Martin, authored the New York Times bestsellers This Is a Book and Point Your Face at This, and released If It’s Not Funny It’s Art, a collection of his original drawings. His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, and The New York Times Magazine. He also wrote, directed, and starred in his debut feature, Dean, which received the Founder’s Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival for best narrative American feature. Photography and video recording are not permitted. Seating is reserved, and doors open one hour before the show. Ticket tiers are available at $85, $70, $55, and $45, plus fees. The first annual Top Cheddar 3v3 hockey tournament, presented by Sargento, brings PeeWee and Bantam players together for 3v3 competition. This is an individual sign up format, and teams will be formed by the tournament committee. Goalies compete against each other. Entry is $125 for PeeWee and Bantam participants, with an early bird price of $100. The fee for goalies is $50.

Paint the Towns in Fall Color Plein Air

The Plymouth Arts Center is hosting its annual Paint the Towns in Fall Color, en Plein Air outdoor painting competition and exhibition. Artists can paint across several area locations during painting days in October, and there will also be a special paint weekend on the grounds of the Road America racetrack. A public reception with live music, complimentary appetizers and desserts, and a silent auction will take place at the Plymouth Arts Center on Friday, October 20, with the gallery showing continuing afterward through November 17. The silent auction includes the featured paintings, and cash and merit awards will be presented at the awards ceremony.

Mr. Spark Electric Benefit Softball tournament

The 1st Annual Mr. Spark Electric Benefit Softball Tournament brings the community together at Wildwood Park in Sheboygan to support the Gardner family. Their daughter, Grace, arrived at 27 weeks weighing 2 pounds 8.3 ounces and spent 114 days in the NICU while her parents traveled daily from Sheboygan to Green Bay. She returned home on oxygen nearly a month after her due date, and her mother, Emily, has taken an extended leave from her ER nursing job to care for her. The tournament is a double-elimination men’s event with upper and lower divisions, each limited to 10 teams. Entry is $200 per team. Prize payouts are $1,000 for first place and $500 for second in the upper division, and $600 for first and $300 for second in the lower division. Teams can register by sending a message to the Mr. Spark Electric LLC Facebook page, with total participation capped at 20 teams. Raffle basket donations, including baskets, gift cards, or items, are also being accepted through that page. All proceeds go directly to help the Gardner family with medical expenses.

Universe in the Park: In-Person Badger Talk at Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, WI

Universe in the Park brings an in-person Badger Talk to Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The program is free, will be held rain or shine, and does not require registration. Activities typically begin shortly after sunset with a 30 to 40 minute astronomy presentation accompanied by slides. Presenters choose the focus, often offering an approachable look at one or two topics while highlighting recent developments such as newly found planetary systems, Pluto’s reclassification, and results from the Hubble Space Telescope. If conditions allow, a moderate 8 to 10 inch telescope is set up for public viewing of visible celestial objects. Observing continues while visitors are interested, usually wrapping up when the park closes. The talk is best suited for ages 8 and older, and telescope viewing is appropriate for ages 4 and up. The featured presenter is Jodie Kiyokawa, a graduate student working with Catherine Grier to study supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies. Originally from Hawai’i, she studied astrophysics at UCLA before joining the astronomy PhD program at UW-Madison. She is an observational astronomer who uses both ground and space-based telescopes to explore the extreme environments near these black holes, and she is active in outreach and mentoring.

Paint Your Pet! - THURS SEPT 10th (Sheboygan)

Eleni from KitscheCoo leads a relaxed paint night at 3 Sheeps Brewing in Sheboygan where your pet becomes the star of your canvas. Beginners are welcome. After registering, email a clear photo of your pet to kitschecoo@gmail.com so the instructor can pre-sketch the image onto an 11x14 canvas, creating an easy outline to paint. During class, you will receive step-by-step guidance on layering color and adding fur textures to create a personalized portrait. The cost is $60 per person and includes your first beverage at the bar. All supplies and instruction are provided, and your pre-sketched canvas will be ready upon arrival. One pet per canvas per person is standard. To add a second pet to the same canvas, purchase the additional pet option for $15, with a maximum of two pets due to canvas size and the time needed to complete. Pre-registration is required. After you register, send your pet photo no later than three days before class, and a confirmation email will be sent when your image is received.

At LushLOUNGE, this hands-on chunky knit blanket workshop pairs crafting with delicious drinks and food. It is great for beginners and experienced knitters alike, and the project is completed using only your hands. Everyone leaves with a cozy finished blanket tucked into a blanket bag and a new skill, plus emailed instructions and yarn buying tips for future projects. The blanket begins as a lap size and often grows to full-body coverage depending on your preferred style. Choose a looser or tighter knit, so sizes vary; the tightest knit is about 45 by 42 inches and most blankets end up larger. Pre-registration is required and seats are limited on a first come, first served basis, with 18 spots available. Two pricing options are offered. The $65 option lets you select from the yarn colors brought to the workshop. The $85 option allows you to preselect one or two colors in a premium, softer, thicker yarn that helps hide imperfections, with color selection handled by email about four weeks beforehand. Registration for the $85 option closes four weeks prior if not sold out, and the $65 option closes two weeks prior if not sold out. Ages 12 and up can work on a blanket independently. An optional $35 add-on is available if you want the experience without the knitting, and your blanket will be completed and ready for you at the workshop. This add-on must be paired with an $85 workshop registration and should be purchased at least two weeks in advance.
