The parade features more than 80 entries, including floats, marching bands, trucks, and walking groups, following a route that travels east on Washington Street from South 14th Street to South 8th Street, then heads north on 8th Street to Park Street by the Rahr-West Art Museum. The first two blocks on Washington Street, from South 14th to South 12th, serve as a Sensory Sensitive Zone where lights, loud music, and sirens are paused. Spectators are welcome to watch from the sidewalks along the route and should remain at or behind the curb. Several establishments along the route plan to show the Packers vs. Rams game, and a list of participating locations and downtown specials will be shared closer to the event. If attending in person is not possible, coverage will be available on WOMT Radio 1240 AM and 107.9 FM, and a livestream will appear on the City of Manitowoc Facebook page. Before and after the parade, the Rahr-West Art Museum hosts a free Santa Reception where children can visit with Santa, enjoy treats, and celebrate the opening of Christmas in the Mansion. Visit Manitowoc’s Visitor Information Center will be open during the festivities with complimentary hot chocolate, a cookie, and a glow wand while supplies last. Two mild November days in 1940 gave way to a sudden and powerful storm as a blizzard swept across the Midwest, piling more than a foot of snow in some locations and causing extensive damage. This talk examines the Armistice Day storm in Wisconsin as a case study of early winter weather systems that often move through the Upper Midwest and the western Great Lakes during the second week of November. Edward Hopkins, PhD, will highlight the storm’s key features and connect it to other notable November events known as the Gales of November. Edward Hopkins is the Assistant State Climatologist for Wisconsin. His experience includes more than 20 years with the State Climatology Office, teaching meteorology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and co-authoring Wisconsin’s Weather and Climate with Professor Joseph M. Moran of the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay.
