The 4th annual Dolly Dash 5K Race for Reading celebrates 20 years of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in West Virginia. Participation supports the statewide book gifting program that sends free, high quality books to children from birth to age five to build early literacy, strengthen family engagement, and encourage school readiness and lifelong success. Each race registration funds one child’s annual enrollment. Registrants receive a commemorative T-shirt featuring a 20th anniversary banner. Shirt pickup is available on race day, and arrangements can be made by email for those not attending. On-site check in takes place near the starting line at the shelter by the big red tent. Expect vendors, shaved ice, music, and playground fun. A Best Dressed Dolly contest will be held with child, adult, and pet Doggy Parton categories, and participation requires race registration. The 5K follows the contest. Awards include commemorative locally made wooden embossed medals for first place and first runner up male and female in each age group. Children in strollers are not eligible for awards in child categories. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Options to register, become a sponsor, or donate are available.

No prior sewing experience is required. This beginner class covers the essentials of using a sewing machine, working with rotary cutters, rulers and templates, and calculating fabric to reduce waste. The project leads to a finished quilt. Participants should bring a sewing machine and scissors. The quilt uses 12 fat quarters, and fabric can be selected at the shop. An annual backpack and school supply giveaway offers free, brand-new backpacks stocked with essentials to help elementary students start the school year ready. A total of 120 backpacks will be available. No purchase is required. Each child is limited to one backpack, and distribution will be on a first come, first served basis until all are distributed.
