Cyclists from across Southeast Michigan come together for the 21st annual Sierra Club Green Cruise, starting and finishing at the Palmer Park Community Building. Two group rides are offered, a 36 mile option and a 25 mile option, each with set paces. The 36 mile route includes a fast group for experienced riders at approximately 17 miles per hour or more and another group rolling about 14 to 16 miles per hour, while the 25 mile ride moves at around 12 miles per hour. If the wrong ride is selected during online registration, participants can simply join the distance they intended on the day. Registration is available in advance for 20 dollars with no fees, and day of registration is 25 dollars with no fees, payable by cash or credit card. A Sierra Club waiver is included in online registration or can be completed on site. Before heading out, free snacks are provided and coffee is available for purchase. Pre ride bicycle repairs are offered by Sullivan’s Continental Bike Shop, and the rides are led by experienced leaders in a supportive format that does not leave anyone behind. Route details are shared on Strava, with the 36 mile map posted closer to the event. Highlights include recognizing the Green Cruiser of the Year Award winner, supporting local environmental efforts and nonprofit conservancies, planned snack stops, and post ride food trucks in the Community Building parking lot. Parking and restrooms are available at the start and finish location, with additional parking nearby including at the Detroit Police Department Twelfth Precinct. The Green Cruise takes place rain or shine with no alternate date. Experienced ride leaders are also being recruited for a 29 mile route.

Expect an introduction to more than ten common local plants, guidance on safe foraging, tips for harvesting in ways that support plant health, and straightforward strategies for successful outings. The experience is designed to be accessible to all levels, typically covering less than a half mile and staying close to the starting point. The meeting point is the parking lot. The event aims to leave participants informed, inspired, motivated, and connected with others who want to make foraging a meaningful part of life. A suggested donation of $10 to $40 supports the nonprofit Regeneration, Equity and Justice, and scholarships are available to keep the walk accessible to all.
