Cliff Bell’s hosts Fonville x Fribush, a new collaboration between acclaimed drummer Corey Fonville of Butcher Brown and organist Sam Fribush. Drawing on the energy of classic 90s hip hop linkups, they reshape the organ trio with a youthful, down to earth groove and tight interplay. The guitar seat rotates, with past appearances by Charlie Hunter, Alan Good Parker, and Morgan Burrs. Original tunes such as I Couldn’t Love You More and Blue Chips evoke Atlantic Coast moods rooted in North Carolina and Virginia. Fonville has emerged as a sought after drummer and producer across hip hop, jazz, and R&B, performing with Butcher Brown on NPR’s Tiny Desk, touring internationally, collaborating with ESPN, and producing for artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff. Fribush brings a distinctive voice on a vintage 1957 C3 Hammond organ and a bandleader’s sensibility, with a shared goal of pushing the organ trio forward by widening its possibilities. The evening features two performances. Dinner service is available before the music begins, with seating offered ahead of the early set and a separate seating window for the later show. The project also arrives with new recordings, including the debut EP R&B Organ Trio featuring Charlie Hunter and the full length What Day Is It featuring Alan Good Parker, a vinyl only release through WarHen Records.
