An exhibit of pressed botanical art by Holly Lukasiewicz highlights the beauty of seasonal plants gathered from along the Missouri River in Omaha. Each pressed and framed work brings together stems, leaves, blossoms, petals, and pods, arranged into flowing compositions that seem to move across the frame. Viewers may notice words and familiar shapes, such as hearts or the word LOVE, formed by the contours of each plant element. The materials come from a personal garden, native prairie species, local flower farms, and commercial growers in South America. Working with District 2 Floral Studio, Lukasiewicz blends her experience as an art educator and environmentalist to create flora-based works that honor the fleeting nature of each season. Her practice is rooted in local agriculture and sustainable design that supports the well being of both local and global communities. She encourages connections to sustainability through beauty and flowers, offering workshops, flower subscriptions, event work, custom installations, flower preservation services, and ecoprints.

Traveling Through Gardens showcases Lynette Fast’s vibrant wall pieces that are made to be lived with and looked at, pairing everyday enjoyment with bold artistic expression. Rooted in the natural world and shaped by the people and places around her, these unique works draw on personal narratives and respond to the rooms they inhabit. With an affection for eclectic settings, the collection highlights individuality while bringing beauty and meaning into daily life. Rich color and texture, a love of gardens, and a commitment to teaching and lifelong learning run through the exhibit, inviting visitors to experience art as a personal and shared journey that sparks connection and growth. An artist and educator for more than 38 years, Fast has taught learners from preschool through adulthood, a path that informs both her creative process and her approach to teaching. Her practice spans jewelry and metalsmithing, painting and drawing, sculpture, and pottery, reflecting a spirit of exploration. She has shown work across the region for more than 17 years and is represented by five galleries, with numerous exhibitions throughout Nebraska. Her community involvement includes private instruction, work with Lincoln Public Schools, and contributions to the Nebraska Art Teachers Association and the LUX Center for the Arts. Recognition includes the 2025 Lincoln Artists’ Guild Spring Best of Show, the NATA Roscoe Shields Service Award, and multiple ANAC selections and awards. The exhibit is included with regular garden admission, and garden members receive free entry. In keeping with Lauritzen Gardens’ support of local creators, the presentation celebrates botanical inspiration drawn from the garden’s collections and the enduring connection between art, nature, and the community.

Summer is still rolling with a relaxed float on the Elkhorn River, with tubes linked together and the current setting an easy pace. Volunteer guides will help navigate the route so participants can settle in and enjoy a day on the water. Shuttle rides are provided for participants with vision loss between Outlook Nebraska and Tubing and Adventures before and after the float. Friends and family can participate as well, but they must arrange their own transportation and pay the $30 tube rental. Exceptions to the transportation requirement may be available for those willing to help drive participants who are unable to do so.

Comic Con Nebraska is a newly launched event from Octopus Events Group (OEG), which introduced the show in Omaha as its first production. OEG brings together the founders of Emerald City Comic Con, Rose City Comic Con, and Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, along with the founders of Epic Photo Ops. Waco-born Huser Brothers bring a soulful, high energy take on country to the Front Room at Slowdown, pulling from original material including the Find My Way EP and songs like Dancefloor, Highway, Tired of Runnin, and Honey. They have built a following in the independent scene, earned the 2025 TCMA Country Band of the Year, and shared stages with artists such as Koe Wetzel, Parker McCollum, Treaty Oak Revival, Dylan Scott, and Gary Allen. Josh Watson performs with Watson&Co., his longtime collaborators Daniel Shea and John Mitchell, as they prepare a debut album that will feature both band tracks and solo performances. On the historic grounds of Fort Omaha, a showcase of classic automobiles spanning 1900 to 1970 invites visitors to relive motoring’s early and mid century eras. From pioneer-era cars to beloved mid century favorites, this free community gathering highlights craftsmanship and automotive heritage. Spectators receive free admission and can also visit the General Crook House Museum at no cost. Explore how a shifting river reshaped state lines at a Second Sunday Talk at Metro Community College, Fort Omaha Campus, Building 10, Room 110. Historian Troy Stolp examines the late nineteenth century moment when the Missouri River changed course, forming Carter Lake and Lake Manawa and setting off years of legal disputes and conflicting land claims between Iowa and Nebraska. Drawing on historical research, maps, photographs, and storytelling, he traces how floods, geography, politics, and the courts combined to create a boundary unlike any other in the United States. The presentation explains why Carter Lake belongs to Iowa even though it is surrounded by Omaha, and how Lake Manawa became a major regional recreational destination while drawing interest from both states. Troy Stolp is a Lewis Central High School graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Religious Studies from Iowa State University, a Bachelor of Arts in History from Buena Vista University, and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He serves on the boards of Preserve Council Bluffs and the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County, has been involved with the Council Bluffs Historic Preservation Commission, and has worked with the Durham Museum. Recognized for engaging programs and deep knowledge of local history, he offers a clear look at the Missouri River’s lasting impact on communities on both banks.

He also develops new material at the Jacaranda Veranda series, where music impresario John Antich suggested a compilation, helped choose the tracks, and served as executive producer. Tickets are $25.
