Opera in Williamsburg Virginia presents Hector Armienta’s Zorro! at the Kimball Theatre, marking the work’s first East Coast engagement. Set in the early 1800s amid political upheaval in Spain and Mexico, the story follows a young man who returns from Spain to his birthplace, the pueblo of Los Ángeles, where he embraces his destiny and reconnects with a mestiza he was once forbidden to love. Inspired by true events and drawn from the famed Zorro legend, this fully staged production pairs sweeping romance with daring swordplay, performed by a world-class cast. Premiered in 2022, the score has been likened to Puccinian lyricism infused with Mexican color. The opera is sung in English and Spanish with English supertitles. Previously presented in Santa Barbara, San Jose, Arizona, and other cities across the Western United States, this appearance brings the work to East Coast audiences for the first time. Reserved seating is priced at $75, with a $70 discounted rate for seniors, first responders, military, teachers, college faculty and staff, musicians, and librarians, and $15 for students.
