Open Shop offers time to focus on personal woodworking projects with safety training and guidance from industry professionals. Every participant completes a safety orientation before using tools, and sign-offs may take longer when attendance is high. Those who want to move through tool trainings more quickly can arrange a private lesson. Bring your own wood and hardware; the shop provides small consumables such as sandpaper and glue. Storage between sessions is not provided unless arranged in advance, so plan to take projects home. Advance registration is required. If no one registers, the shop may close early, so signing up ahead helps ensure the session runs. The format is best suited to intermediate and advanced woodworkers, though beginners are welcome and should expect additional training and supervision. A Place at Our Table is Nourish Pierce County’s annual community luncheon at Hotel Murano, celebrating the shared efforts of neighbors, partners, volunteers, advocates, and donors who help ensure access to nutritious food across Pierce County. Guests are treated to a complimentary meal while learning how the organization is responding to food insecurity and how collective support can move the community toward a future without hunger. This year includes special recognition of Pierce County delegates and community leaders whose advocacy helped secure critical funding for regional hunger-relief efforts, strengthening services for thousands of families, children, and seniors. Attendees can look forward to inspiring stories, a look ahead at what is next, and highlights of partnerships that contribute to a stronger, healthier Pierce County. Metta, from the Pali and Sanskrit traditions, serves as the foundation of the Brahma Viharas, also known as the Divine Abodes, which include loving kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity. Having recently explored metta and compassion, this meeting turns attention to appreciative joy, mudita, highlighting its many facets. The session honors the spirit of sangha, a community that practices together, shares the Dharma, and deepens understanding of mindfulness and its applications. New meditators, seasoned practitioners, and those in between are all welcomed within this community offered course.

Clear out usable furniture without sending it to the landfill at a Beyond the Bin furniture collection with Northwest Furniture Bank. Beyond the Bin offers free, community reuse events where participants can bring items to the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center to be donated to local nonprofits that return them to the community through reuse or redistribution. This fourth Friday edition highlights furniture and is part of a recurring collaboration that runs from April through September. Donations are taken in the order people arrive, and the day ends once the trucks fill up. Items may be declined based on condition, size, demand, market value, or season. Oversized, hazardous, damaged, or otherwise non-accepted items will not be taken, and participants are responsible for safely disposing of anything that cannot be accepted. Accepted items can vary with each partner, so review the event calendar and the partner’s current list before attending.
