Summertime

As part of The Loft Cinema’s Hollywood Classics, this presentation returns a Golden Age film to the big screen. David Lean’s 1955 Summertime was shot in Technicolor on location in Venice after the director stepped away from British soundstages. Katharine Hepburn, in an Academy Award nominated performance, portrays a lonely, middle-aged American from Akron who, after years of setting money aside, finally takes a holiday to Venice and finds her insecurities tested by an attraction to an Italian shopkeeper played by Rossano Brazzi. The story unfolds among the city’s waterways and public squares, capturing both the warmth of summer and the tenderness of a romance that may be brief. Lean regarded this as his favorite of his own films. The film is from the USA and runs 100 minutes. It is not rated.

Scrap Casting in Water

At Tucson Jewelry School, this hands-on jewelry class explores water casting and the surprising forms created when molten metal meets water. With step-by-step guidance, participants learn the fundamentals of the process and see how scrap metal can be transformed into new, organic components for jewelry. Each pour produces a unique piece with petal-like, lily-inspired or burst-flower shapes that can spark ideas for future designs. Students may bring their own silver scrap or purchase silver grain during class. It is an opportunity to experiment, reuse materials, and create distinctive castings that inspire the next project.

Trish Toledo

Trish Toledo brings a timeless blend of classic pop and soul shaped by an Ecuadorian and Guatemalan upbringing in Carson, California and early exposure to her father’s life as a musician. She grew up listening to music from earlier generations, began by singing cumbias and ballads, and ultimately found her strongest connection to classic pop and soul storytelling. After pausing her own pursuits to focus on motherhood as a teen, she returned to performing in 2017 with encouragement from her son and now chooses material that reflects her lived experiences. She often records songs straight through in a single take without studio edits, and her performances resonate with audiences from longtime fans of this era to younger listeners discovering it anew. This is an all-standing event, with seats included for High Top Tables for 4 and Stage View Seating tickets. Recommended for ages 16 and older, and guests under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Sorry, Wrong Number

Featured in Hollywood Classics, this 1948 film noir showcases Barbara Stanwyck in her fourth and final Oscar-nominated role as Leona Stevenson, a wealthy heiress confined to her bed who accidentally overhears a murder plot after placing a phone call. Unable to get help from the police and growing more desperate, she begins to suspect that she is the intended victim and that her husband, played by Burt Lancaster in one of his earliest screen appearances, may be involved... or perhaps something else is unfolding. Directed by Anatole Litvak and adapted from the celebrated 22-minute radio drama, the film steadily escalates the suspense over 89 minutes. Produced in the United States and not rated.
